Life as a wage slave just didn’t cut it for Arash Afrooze. After working as a web app developer for the federal government—in which he felt restless and unchallenged—he partnered with twin brothers Terry and Doug Beech to launch HiretheWorld.com in 2010. Their mission was to create an online portal through which companies could hire individuals from around the world for specific jobs on a one-off, on-demand basis. Almost two years in, Afrooze believes his firm is helping spur a shift in the way companies do business. “Our product empowers businesses and employees around the world to work how they like, when they like and from wherever they like.” At the age of 27 Afrooze has been awarded as one of profit magazine’s 2011 top 20 young entrepreneurs under 30.
